This year, I deviated from my traditional red and green fireplace mantle in my living room. It all started with me finding these great green, shimmery candles. Up close, the candles look a bit like birch wood (although they are green with shimmers of silver) — just beautiful! I knew they would look nice with my mercury pillar holders.
I started with an artificial pine garland that has various types of greenery and some pine cones. I enhanced the garland with fresh greens. In fact, I bought a fresh mixed greenery bough from Trader Joe’s and took it apart. I stuck pieces of fresh greens here and there on the mantel.
Then I added my silver mercury glass. I used 5 mercury pillar holders (from Pottery Barn, many years ago) and a few mercury cache pots along with mercury votive holders (a Target bargain at 99 cents each)! I strung my vintage-looking silver garland and added several glass jars topped with leaded glass ornaments — and there you have my mantel.
I’m not sure if I’ll go back to red and green next year. Natalie loves the silver and green!
